As humans, we are so quick to judge. We are so quick to point out people's flaws. We are so quick to recognize everything someone else is doing wrong.
I was reflecting recently on what has been going on in my life. It dawned on me that I have been concerning myself with what other people think. I have been constantly aware of my own flaws. Never, ever feeling like I live up to what expectations I think others have for me.
As I thought about this realization, I couldn't help but reflect on Jesus' actions in John 8. The Pharisees were prepared to stone a woman for her choices. But before they could, Jesus told them that anyone without sin could cast the first stone.
When I first heard this story years ago, it blew my mind. Jesus was the only one without sin. He was absolutely perfect. Therefore, He was the only one capable of stoning this woman. Yet, He chose to forgive her. He ordered her to get up and sin no more. He was never going to condemn her.
We pick up stones every day. We cast stones every day. And most of the time, it happens faster than we have time to process what we have done. All while hurting someone in the process.
God is a God of love, compassion, and grace. We are covered in that grace. But we tend to forget about it and His goodness. We are all guilty of concerning ourselves with the judgments of other sinners rather than relying on the one who has never forsaken us. Those other sinners are who we feel condemnation from. Not God. Not Jesus.
But if Jesus wouldn't do that to me, why should I feel condemned by others? By my own self?
I challenge you to set down those stones you are holding. I am not saying this is an easy thing for you to do. Maybe this person wronged you. Or maybe you just didn't find their outfit flattering.
Either way, the only one who can judge us for our choices has given us so much grace. We should be able to do better and do the same. And walk boldly moving forward because we get to experience His goodness.
Show grace. Love people regardless. End of story.
This is something I need to work on as well. But I want to lead by example. And if I can help show love and make this world a little bit better of a place, you better believe I want to do it.

We need to be intentional about ever picking up the stones. Some of us have pockets full of them and like you said, throw them before we’ve had a chance to realize what we’ve done.
