Keep Your Friends Close & Your Mentors Closer

I debated writing on this topic for about two days now. I do believe it is a topic that should be addressed if you truly are looking for growth. So here we are. Before I start, let me just say that I need to work on this as well. It definitely is not an easy task, but useful in many cases of personal development.

When I started my business, I remember having a conversation with one of my friend/business partner's husband. I don't remember exactly what prompted this conversation, but his advice stuck with me. He basically told me that I needed to find people who had the amount of success I dreamed for myself. Once I did that, I should then befriend them and look to them as kind of a mentor. And most importantly, I needed to constantly surround myself with these kinds of people.

About a month after this conversation, I really began to listen to podcasts. I found one that I still love to this day that is called Mommy Millionaire with Cayla Craft. I am not a mother, nor am I even remotely near it. But if you have a business to grow, I cannot recommend it enough. Anyways, Cayla has talked about this same thing in her podcast. She and my friend's husband had success in surrounding themselves with people they wanted to be like. I knew there couldn't be a coincidence that I was given the same advice in such a short period of time.

Here's why it works. When we surround ourselves with people who are more experienced, more successful, or even just intimidate us, then we are challenged to better ourselves. It forces us to level up. In addition, you'd be surprised how many doors these people could open for you.

Think about it this way. I personally want to be a millionaire because I want the ability to give back as I please AND provide for myself and my family. With this goal in mind, I would want to surround myself with self-made millionaires, right? Right. Let's say begin to surround myself with them. I'd begin to pick up on their habits and traits. I could learn from their talents in continuous success. Basically I could gain a whole millionaire mindset. And, on top of that, they wouldn't allow me to stay stagnate when it comes to my goals and dreams.

You want to know what the best part about all this is? A mentor's advice is so valuable because they have already been where we want to go! That's what I want you guys to understand about why this is so important for our growth. Not only will we be taken to the next level, but we'll be growing rapidly! That's HUGE!

Now here's the hard part of all of this. If your friends aren't supporting you and running to better themselves constantly, then my recommendation is to find mentors that are exactly where you want to be and befriend them. I'm not saying to end your friendships that you presently have. But I definitely don't recommend limiting your circle to just those friends either. It will be incredibly difficult to grow in a group that is stagnate. In fact, more times than not, they'll hold you back from those goals.

But it is your choice. You get to choose who you surround yourself with. I just know that for me, I won't allow any earthly human to hold me back from accomplishing my dreams.

Like I said-- this is something I need to work on too. I have made it a goal to surround myself this year with people who either want to run with me, or those who are willing to mentor me to get to my next goal of success. So if this resonates with you, TRUST ME-- you are not alone.

I love you guys! Be sure to subscribe to know when my new posts come out. Join the fun and follow me on Instagram! @ansley.brennan
