An Open Letter To My Future Husband

Updated: Apr 1, 2019

I'm pretty sure the reason why I have the desire to write this is because it is Valentine's Day. And also probably because a good number of my friends have dates today with their boyfriends.

Before I begin, I just wanted to stress that I actually do write very personal letters to my future husband in a journal. If you're in my position, I HIGHLY recommend it! But, this is more casual.

Please enjoy because I did not hold any of my personality back.

So, here we go!

Dear Future Husband,

This is the 20 year old version of your wife. Hi! And yes, I have been thinking and praying for you for a very long time.

I was thinking the other day, and I realized that what I wanted in a husband back in high school is not the same as what I want now. So I'm going to let you in on what that is. You're welcome.

I want you to be a family guy. My family means EVERYTHING to me, and you're just going to become one of them. We're a very loving bunch. And we like to eat. A lot. There's no way you won't be excited about that!

To go along with that, I would like for you to build a genuine relationship with my little brother. He has never been a fan of any of my boyfriends before. And now that we are both older and closer, his opinion is now relevant.

Another thing-- I want you to step up and lead our family. I recently realized that even though I love to lead, I need a man who I can look up to, admire, and trust to lead me for once. I know that I can learn so much from you!

And the last thing that I want to say here-- I want you to love me like Jesus loves the church. The church is His bride. I am your bride. It just makes sense!

But really, I want Jesus in the center of our relationship. And if this is true, I am pretty sure loving me like that will just come naturally. Otherwise, I don't think we would be getting married and I don't think my daddy would allow it if we weren't.

This is all I want to say for now. I hope you're well and making smart choices!

Love,

Ansley B.

P.S. Daddy, if you made it this far, I am SURE I won't be getting married any time soon.
